I love working with patients of all ages because acupuncture offers a wide range of benefits throughout every stage of life. Age should never be a barrier when it comes to prioritising your well-being.

Why wait for test results to indicate a disease? If you're feeling unwell, it's time to take action. By focusing on improving your health now, you'll reap the rewards in the future. For instance, addressing concerns like irregular periods or PMT at a younger age can potentially alleviate symptoms during perimenopause. As both conditions are linked to hormone imbalances, taking proactive steps to achieve hormonal balance earlier in life means less work will be needed as you grow older.

Peri-menopause & Mid life

By the time midlife rolls around, you've likely accomplished a great deal across various areas of life – your career, owning a home, raising children, nurturing relationships, and following the path that felt right for you. However, once you've reached this point, you might find yourself asking, "What's next?" You're not alone in feeling this way.

I spend a lot of time talking to patients about the factors below that can compound the strain you feel, leaving you emotionally and physically drained.

  • Hot flushes, irregular and / or heavy periods, fluctuating moods / worsening PMT
  • Poorly managed anxiety or stress
  • Lack of career progression and vision for life
  • Supporting teenagers or elderly relatives (or both!)
  • “Empty nest” syndrome
  • Poor digestive health, e.g. IBS or other digestive complaints

Navigating these years can undoubtedly present challenges, making it difficult to discover fresh and invigorating experiences that ignite your passion and drive for life. While I cannot eliminate these struggles from your life, I can provide assistance by offering regular acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture can help regulate hormones, restore physical balance, and provide a smoother journey through the ups and downs of everyday life. Together, we can navigate this rollercoaster and empower you to face these challenges head-on.

Parenthood

The majority of my patients are women. I’m fine with that, I am one! But it’s important to me that both parents feel welcome and supported in this space. Regardless of whether you work full-time or part-time in paid employment, or devote your time to the home, we all face the ongoing challenge of finding balance in our lives.

The questions we constantly grapple with can be overwhelming: Have we made the right choices? Have we maintained healthy boundaries? Have we shown enough love? Are our children truly happy? Should we be dedicating more or less time to work? These concerns are frequently raised by my patients during their visits, alongside other physical or emotional issues, such as:

  • Regulating your menstrual cycle after childbirth
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Stress – balancing the needs of children with your own needs and those of your partner
  • Poor sleep
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Loss of self or self esteem

With a combination of TCM and Five Element acupunture we can work to rebalance your body to ease your physical symptoms and regulate your emotions. I aim to empower parents to navigate the complexities of their lives with confidence and clarity. Not only will your health improve, you’ll be teaching your children powerful lessons about looking after their own physical and mental health.

Teenagers

Navigating the teenage years can be quite a journey, filled with various challenges such as coping with a changing body, unpredictable friendship dynamics, rollercoaster-like hormone fluctuations, the pressure of exams, and the quest to discover our true selves. If you're looking for a safe space to unload your thoughts and engage in open, non-judgmental conversations about any of these topics, I'm here for you.

  • Regulating your menstrual cycle, dealing with painful or heavy periods, PMT
  • Stress – exam, workload
  • Anxiety – social, generalised anxiety disorder, fears
  • Friendship issues and confidence, finding your sense of self
  • Headaches and migraines – these often present for the first time in teens and are easier to fix the earlier they are treated.

Using TCM and Five Element acupunture we can work together to balance the hormones and the emotions. With carefully chosen lifestyle advice you can learn to understand and manage your emotional responses to the world so you feel in control, empowered and grounded.

Retirement

You’ve worked hard all your life in a busy career or looking after the home. Just as you think you are ready to enjoy your free time your body produces symptoms that you can’t ignore. These are the kinds of things I discuss with my retired patients:

  • Aching / painful joints
  • Poor digestive health, e.g. IBS or other digestive complaints
  • Anxiety and frustration
  • Grief or depression as a result of loss of structure / purpose in your daily life

It’s important that you have someone to talk to about your health and your emotional concerns. I’m always keen to be a listening ear to help you work through the challenges of later life. It can be hard to know when to accept symptoms as a normal part of aging and when they can be expected to resolve. We work together with acupuncture and lifestyle advice to make the best of later years.

"She is a great listener, understanding, compassionate and always makes the space feel warm and welcoming."

I have been coming to see Sarah for a couple of years now and have used Acupuncture to keep me in balance for years. It helps with so many chronic conditions and will become even more important as I approach menopause. Sarah takes the time to understand me as a person and how my whole person is feeling before catering the treatment to my specific needs that day. She is a great listener, understanding, compassionate and always makes the space feel warm and welcoming. Thoroughly recommended.
