Acupuncture is a system of medicine based on Chinese medicine principles that have been developed for over 2000 years to restore, promote and maintain good health.
Acupuncture regualtes the flow of qi around the body through pathways called meridians. Although these systems were developed before modern scientific techniques were available medical scientists have more recently discovered pathways that follow the meridians and communication between cells that corresponds with the concept of qi.
Acupuncture points located along these channels allow the practitioner to tap into the body’s energy and enhance it’s natural healing capabilities.
Acupuncturists use these ancient natural laws of balance and harmony to diagnose issues in the body and explain them through the concepts of Yin and Yang, Qi, the Five Elements, the Organ system and the Channels.
An acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. Your acupuncturist makes a detailed diagnosis based on your health, lifestyle and symptoms to formulate a treatment plan with the right combination of points for you. Often these needles are left in for a short time whilst you relax but they can also be removed immediately.
Acupuncture is widley used all over the world, either as a treatment on it’s own or in combination with other forms of medicine.
